"Grazing Management Planning - Developing a Resilient Grazing System"

The Athens Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) in partnership with OSU Extension Athens County and the Athens County Grazing Council will host a grazing meeting on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Athens SWCD office, 69 S. Plains Road, The Plains, Ohio beginning at 6:30 pm.
As we move into winter, it is time for producers to start planning for the next year. In this meeting we’ll discuss pasture management and opportunities for producers to improve or enhance their operations that will help to withstand extreme and unexpected weather conditions.
Topics that will be discussed:
1) Developing a diverse grazing system
2) Importance of water systems
3) Animal output and land use efficiency through managed grazing
4) Alternative forages
Each livestock operation, in attendance of the meeting, will receive a pasture stick and 2 free soil tests**. We encourage you to bring your soil samples the night of the meeting - otherwise you can drop them off at the Athens SWCD office between November 18 - November 21, 2025. Additional soil test will be $12.00 each.
