Rain gardens are a natural way to use rain water as a resource instead of a waste transport that carries large amounts of debris from our rooftops, roads, sidewalks, and parking lots directly into our creeks and streams. It is estimated that 80% of urban waters are polluted by storm run-off and is the number one threat to the health of our urban streams. This storm water collects pollutants and creates flooding that is harmful to property owners, stream life, and our drinking water. Rain gardens are an easy, cost-efficient way to slow and decrease the amount of storm water runoff by allowing it to soak into the soil and recharge the ground water. They can also help enhance the beauty of our neighborhoods.
