Welcome to the Athens Soil and Water Conservation District Homepage

The Athens Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) was organized in 1946 for the purpose of planning and carrying out programs for the conservation of our natural resources. The district, a political subdivision of the State of Ohio, operated under the provisions of the Ohio Revised Code and is governed by a board of five supervisors who are elected by the landowners of Athens County and server staggered three-year terms. The district covers approximately 322,560 acres in Athens County.

Cooperation with the Athens SWCD is on a voluntary basis and anyone neeeding assistance in solving natural resouce problems may apply for help by contacting the office. Technical aid in planning and applying needed conservation practices will be furnished by Distrct staff and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) personnel assigned to the District. The District also provides a wide variety of conservation eduction programs to both youth and adult audiences. Education programs are compliant with curriculum standards. All services provided by the District are free of charge to the public.

Funding for the District's work is provided by the Athens County Commissioners and the City of Athens. Additional financial assistance is provided by the Ohio Department of Natural Resouces, Divsion of Soil and Water Conservation.
