Forestry Cooperator of the Year
Help us in congratulating the Switzer Family on being recognized as the Athens SWCD Forestry Cooperator of the Year. This award highlights exemplary forestry conservation and management work being done in the county.
The Switzer Family owns 207 acres located in Canaan Township. Since 2004 they have treated autumn olive, privet and grapevines. They have also established plantings of white pine, walnut, cypress and cedar. The family is preparing for their first harvest which will include an ash salvage harvest.
We know we are going to continue to see great things come from the Switzer Family on this land for many years to come. Congratulations Shyler, Shauna, Eli, Ian and Seth on a job very well done!
Conservation Educator of the Year
Congratulations to Kim Caudill on being recognized as the Athens SWCD Conservation Educator of the year. Kim has been a professor at the College of Natural Resources at Hocking College since 2009.
Kim and her husband Mike collaborated with Hocking College administrators to create the Associate Degree of Applied Science in GeoEnvironmental Science at Hocking. The program has graduated 6 classes with each class finding success in career placement. What better way can there be to measure the success of a teacher than by the success of her students?
